Closed Loop Park is Thurston County's one and a half
acre
demonstration garden Why the name "Closed-Loop Park"? This park not only teaches "green" gardening practices, but also educates residents about "closing the recycling loop" in the garden. The park itself breathes new life into an old landfill. The first phase of the demonstration garden illustrates yard and kitchen waste composting techniques, environmentally sound pest control methods, water-wise gardening, and other low impact landscaping practices. The park is an example of how to "close the recycling loop", illustrating many examples of recycled products such as salvaged, remilled lumber for the structures, compost bins made from recycled plastic, shredded Holiday tree mulch lining the pathways and recycled plastic lumber posts for mounting signs. Closed Loop Park also offers multiple recreational opportunities. Jogging the trail, flying a kite on the top of the hill, viewing Mount Rainier or just watching daily landfill operations are available to all visitors. Visit our pages to find out about or
humble beginnings, how the garden
closes the recycling loop, earth-friendly
garden management techniques and how
plants are selected. News
and Events will keep you up-to-date on our happenings and "Any
Questions?" will get you more information. Closed Loop Park is funded through solid waste user fees and a grant
from the WA State Department of Ecology. |
