Closed Loop Park Choices

What Happens To Your Holiday Tree When The Holidays Are Over?

As its name intends, one of Closed Loop Park's main objectives is the reduction of wastes leaving the garden, as well as the re-use of various gardening materials.

Recycle!

These goals are being attained in a number of ways:

  • Some plant stock is raised from cuttings and divisions donated by volunteers and Master Gardeners;
  • Mulches used for soil covering are derived from locally collected Holiday trees that are shredded at the landfill;
  • Compost used for soil amendment is produced at the garden from clippings and hand weedings generated at Closed Loop Park;
  • Landscaping features are improvised using materials otherwise traditionally dumped. For example, garden concrete blocks and pieces recovered from a renovated driveway are used to line garden paths.
A Master Gardener volunteer lines one of the garden's paths with pieces of recovered concrete.
